Their eyes meet in the dimly lit movie hall. She sits to his left. As the lights go dimmer and finally to absolute darkness the glow in her heart enlightens her memories. There are random flashes; the brushing of hands, the stolen kisses, the day dates, midnight banters over the phone. She tries concentrating on the movie playing in front of her eyes but her mind has taken her back 10 years.
Her reverie is broken by a sudden flash of light. The screen says INTERMISSION.
“The usual popcorn and soda for you, honey?”
She nods.
As she settles the popcorn by her seat their hands brush against each other. Then, he holds her hand firm as he did 10 years back, she reciprocates.
The movie resumes, there’s dithering and she holds his hand firmer. It feels familiar but different. After two years of separation, it feels comfortable but she reverts to the past. The fights, the insecurities, her sacrifices, she starts reliving them.
The screen flickers THE END.
She releases her right hand from his grip and taps on it gently. As the lights come on, she holds her husband by his shoulder with her left hand more confident about the decision she took 2 years back and walks out.
